Who we are
Women and Aviation (W&A) is a registered hybrid organisation dedicated to the sustainable economic empowerment, leadership and personal development of women in the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) fields, with a focus on the aviation and space industry through various strategic programmes.
W&A has established a registered non-profit organisation: Girl Fly Programme in Africa (GFPA) Foundation. GFPA Foundation is an information and skills development STEM education programme for school and post-school learners with a particular focus on aviation and space. The programme includes the use of design thinking, technology, and innovation to inform, connect, motivate and inspire the next generation of makers and problem solvers in the aviation and space industry.
What we do
We promote the advancement and leadership of women in the aviation and space sector through education, networking and mentorship. We also continuously honour the unique history of women in aviation and space and document their achievements. Through our GFPA foundation, we aim to empower the next generation of aviation and space leaders in Africa.
Our goals are:
- To establish an industry-wide networking platform to inform, connect, empower and inspire women in the STEM field with a focus on aviation and space industry.
- To mentor, educate and provide support and resources to girls and women in the STEM field with a focus on aviation and space industry.
- To shape and develop future leaders in the STEM field with a focus on aviation and space industry.
- To highlight and document the history women played in the development of aviation and space industry in Africa.
